Abstract: The reaction kinetics of hydrogen absorption for Mg-Ni-MnO2 hydrogen-storage materials made by mechanical alloying was studied, and the absorption rate equations at different absorption steps were founded by using shell and shrinking core model. Moreover, the factors influencing the reaction process were discussed. The results show that the hydrogen absorption mainly includes surface decomposition controlling step and shell diffusion controlling step. In the beginning of the reaction, surface decomposition step was dominant and then transited to shell diffusion step with the reaction proceeding. The hydrogen absorption reaction equation founded agreed quite well with the experimental results.
