Abstract: Thermal diffusion of coating on 45 steel with rare earths, zirconium, aluminum, carbon and nitrogen was reported. Through X-ray photoelectron spectrum, the binding energy of permeated elements and their existence states were analyzed. Their existence on the surface of treated steel was confirmed by scanning electronic microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy. The results show that the rare earth acts as an activator and accelerator of the permeating of other elements. The effect of rare earths on aluminum is greater than that on zirconium.
