Abstract: In Ba(1-x)SrxZr(BO3)2:Tb3+, the VUV excitation spectrum consists of one broad band at 120~170 nm and some bands ranging from 160~300 nm. The former is assigned to the absorption of the borate groups. The latter bands are due to the transitions of Tb3+(4f8→4f75d). The host absorption band moves about 30 nm to the high energy region with x increasing. As the Ce3+ is doped in the samples, the absorption band evidently decreases in VUV region. The emission spectrum reveals an intense and sharp (546 nm) green emission from Tb3+(5D4→7F5) transition and three other weaker emission 5D4→7F(6,4,3) at 492, 589, 624 nm under 147 nm excitation.
