Effect of Rare Earth Elements on Quenching Crack Resistance of Steel 9Cr2Mo

Abstract: The effect of rare earth elements on quenching crack resistance of steel 9Cr2Mo was investigated by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and optical microscopy. Experimental results show that, by adding RE elements to steel 9Cr2Mo, the number of quenching for crack initiation is increased. Meanwhile the propagation of quenching cracks is postponed and the paths of crack propagation are changed. Therefore, quenching crack resistance can be improved by adding RE elements to steel 9Cr2Mo.
