摘    要：介绍多媒体数据库管理系统MBASe－I的系统结构、功能和语言特征,并论述其内核软件的构造特点及主要工作原理。

Abstract: The Mbase-Ⅰ database management system is intended to meet the needs of new andmultimedia database applications. It provides a rich set of capabilities that are not supportedby the current generation(i.e relational)of DBMSs, including novel data types(suchas image, voice, text, spatial et al),rich data modeling constructs and presentation primi-tives,powerful query expressions. This paper presents the architecture, functionality andlanguage features of Mbase-Ⅰ, and also the constructiions and operational principle for itskernel components are discussed.
