Abstract: Polyacrylamide gel method as one of liquid methods, is first used for Li2O-Al2O3-SiO2 glass-ceramic. Acrylamide, N, N’-methylene-bisacrylamide, nitrates of aluminum and lithium carbonate, and tetraethoxy silane are used as precursors. The gel can be obtained by the polyacrylamide gelling, and then is dried out. After that the dried gel is calcined at different temperatures. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Thermal analysis (TG and DTA) and FT-IR spectroscopy analysis are utilized to characterize the gel powder. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) is used to observe the microstructure of the calcined products. For the dried gels heated from 800℃ to 1000℃, the only crystalline phase obtained is β-eucryptite solid solution. The average particle size of the powders is in nanometer scale with a narrow size distribution. This processing route provides the basis for a low-cost, low-temperature and time-saving method for the preparation of homogeneous nanometer-sized multicomponent ceramic glass powders compared with other conventional methods.
